I was flipping through the channels the other day and I came accross a program where a guy was fighting off crocodiles. I thought this looked interesting so I stopped there. This character escaped from the animals and approached a house, he peaked inside, I guess saw what he wanted to see and started setting fire to the place. As soon as the flames started to grow the place emptied, it was the "bad guy lair". Out streamed black person after black person. This was amazingly funny because apparently EVERY bad guy in this movie was black! I suppose all the bad guys had to be black, they were on the Bayou (sarcasm). "Black guy bad guy lair on the Bayou."
I ran from my room to find out what this was. I turned on the TV in the living room, found the channel, and it was a James Bond movie from 1973! How crazy. It most def is not a new movie, but it's actually also not that old. It reminds of how "black" always means "bad", while things that are "white" systematically mean "good". Using this mentality it makes sense that black people would be the bad guys, and how awful is that. Casting solely based on the color of your skin. And if you want to be an actor, you have to follow along with these crazy ideas or you won't get on the Silver Screen.

I think you may have been watching Live and Let Die with the villian being Mr. Big. This was one of the times when Bond wasn't fighting the Russian or German scum that was in every movie before it.
ReplyDeleteI think Joe is trying to say what first popped into my head after reading this post. If you are familiar with bond at all (which it looks like you aren't) you know that most of the time he is fighting some evil Russians (haha I'm Russian) or bad French guys. I'm not sure which movie you saw, but maybe he was after an African druglord this time. I understand where your coming from, but I think it might have just been a coincidence that in this Bond movie the bad guys were black.
ReplyDeleteI honestly just thought it was funny. And I know that black people travel in packs... but that was rediculous.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm commenting on that movie alone... I'm not saying that James Bond and his writers are racist... haha. The point is, what are the chances that in America ALL the bad guys are black? In Russia, most of the people are going to be white Russians... black people don't like the cold.
It is just a coincidence... but in light of the thought process this class have given me... it can certainly be a talking point. I suppose you boys love your James Bond.
