This is totally random, but what's the use in living if you can't read too deeply into things?
There is this commercial for new pizza hot pockets. The premise is that you can eat these treats without utensils and without tables. All the people who see these table-less eaters discriminate against them. They do things like, deny them entrance to restaurants, deny them seating on a bus and yell things meanly out windows. I think it is so random and strange because it is so close to racism. These are things that real people have/had to deal with in real life, and this brand of foods has made light of a not so light situation to talk about food. And yet, I find myself wanting one... So I guess those writers did their jobs.

That sounds like a creepy commercial. I wish you had a link. Maybe I'll youtube it. It sounds way too much like racism and it's a little sad that the commercial made you want one. I think you might just be hungry.
ReplyDeleteI looked on youtube and I couldn't find it (maybe you'd have better luck). And, I was just being humorous. The job of PR and commercials is to be memorable, it's just unfortunate that they decided to go in that direction. But obviously, it sticks out to me. I don't know if it would have stuck out to me having not been in this class though.
ReplyDeleteGreat catch on that one! I haven't seen this commercial yet, but I'll certainly keep my eyes peeled. Comparing an easy-fix for hunger to a not-so-easy-fix to racial inequality is a bit cheeky. Nevertheless, this commercial maintained your attention and evoked your cravings--which is exactly what it intended to do.
ReplyDeleteI have not come across this commercial, but based on how it was described, it seems kind of sad that the company would use something like discrimination as a way to sell their product, even if it did leave a lasting impression.
